For Tricia

March 10, 2008 · 5 Comments

If you haven’t met and Nate, Tricia and Gwyneth yet, please visit their blog. Tricia has CF and is awaiting a lung transplant. Their path veered off their anticipated course with a surprise and joyful addition to their family. Gwyneth is now 2 months old and ALMOST 2 pounds big.

Because we tend to take so many things for granted, ApplePieMom has challenged us to name a few joys we can’t wait for Tricia to experience. With kids from 10 to 30, my list exceeds childhood.

Tricia, I wish you joy when:

  • Participating in the birth of your grandbabies.
  • Stressing over ink color for wedding invitations.
  • Watching her decorate her dorm room in college.
  • Mapping a route for prom dress shopping.
  • Transitioning from underoos to Victoria’s Secret.
  • Shedding quiet tears of pride at her piano recital.
  • Finding dirty socks in your coat pockets.
  • Painting toenails.
  • Giggling under the covers

Linking Hands

January 16, 2008 · 4 Comments

I’m joining the hands to pray for Nathan, Tricia and baby Gwyneth.   Tricia was awaiting a lung transplant (she has cystic fibrosis) when she conceived their baby.  Born on January 8th at 24 weeks, 1 lb, 6 oz, Gwyneth Rose is a little fighter.  Tricia has not fully regained consciousness.   Read their story on Nathan’s Blog.   Send up your love and prayers.  This momma needs to hold her baby.  Until then, please God, hold them tightly in your arms.

A Life Worth Following

January 6, 2008 · 1 Comment

Be thankful that life is not fair because if it were fair, we would not receive Christ’s forgiveness. Find satisfaction in what God has allowed us to do. Don’t dwell on what we have not done.

Justin Sullivan, Feb. 21, 2002

I am a voracious reader, yet I’ve come across a book I can’t read. Yet. Its time will come. Soon. “A Life Worth Following” is a devotional book, written by Chris Wall inspired by the journal kept by Justin Sullivan, an athletic kid with a bright future. A kid who knew God. A kid whose life was tragically cut short.

From The Baptist Messenger:

“Justin was tragically killed in a freak accident on his way home from work,” Wall said. “Even though his life was short, Justin taught people what it meant to walk with God. The truth is that he lived a life worth following, and his legacy will carry on for generations to come. His example in life, his impact on people and his personal discipline together created a life that truly made a difference to all those who crossed his path.”

Even Sullivan’s last act on Earth was a sacrifice. When the wheels of a semi came loose on I-44 on June 3 and tumbled towards the Jeep Grand Cherokee Sullivan was driving, he turned the Jeep to the right and took the brunt of the impact on the driver’s side to save the lives of two others in the vehicle with him-his girlfriend, Elizabeth Darter, and fellow ballplayer and close pal Josh Walker.

My nephew received this journal style book as a Christmas gift. I ordered one for me. The time will come when I can get through a page without tears. I am anxious and waiting for that day. My heart tells me this book will leave a lifetime imprint on my heart.

Don’t use excuses to turn away God’s call. God wants us to be courageous and take risks for He is with us the whole way. Great opportunities usually lie within seemingly impossible situations. God will decide what we can handle.

— Justin Sullivan, Jan. 31, 2002

To order.

Thanks to Jenni Carlson for her write-up in the Oklahoma newspaper (linked above). It seems our paths cross once again. She also covered my buddy Brian Stewart of Tuttle.
