Spaghetti Pie

This is a favorite for my family. I like it because it can be made in advance, ready to pop in the oven. The recipe calls for mozzarella cheese, but I usually top with whatever I have on hand. We’re partial to Monterey Jack or Colby-Jack, a mild cheese that melts and blends easily.

Spaghetti Pie


1 pkg. (8 oz.) Spaghetti

2 eggs, lightly beaten

1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese

2 Tbsp. butter or margarine

1/2 cup chopped green peppers

1/3 cup chopped onions

garlic as desired

1 lb. ground beef

1 jar prepared spaghetti sauce

1 cup Mozzarella Cheese

–> COOK Spaghetti as directed on package; drain. Place in large bowl. Add eggs and the grated Parmesan Cheese; mix lightly. Press onto bottom and up side of baking dish to form shell.

PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Melt butter in large skillet. Add peppers, garlic and onions; cook and stir until tender. Remove and set aside. Brown hamburger; drain. Stir in the sauce and pepper/onion mix; simmer 10 min.; stirring occasionally. Spoon over the spaghetti crust.

BAKE 25 min. Top with mozzarella cheese; continue baking 5 to 10 min. or until cheese is melted.Another favorite is our version of “garlic bread” – I butter hot dog buns and sprinkle on a little garlic salt; then slip in the oven for 15 minutes. Yummm!

    I was just saying to the kids that we need a recipe for dinner that will stretch out the one pound of free range, organic, local beef we splurged on ($5.00!) at the farmer’s market. We only do meat when we can get it that way, and it’s so rare. Your recipe looks like just the thing! I’m sending Falcon to the store for spaghetti sauce and garlic bread right now.
